Cycling comes up empty-handed in Time Trialby Colin Whited on September 8, 2009 Two days after American cyclist Paul Wood won the 1,000-meter sprint, the U.S. Cycling Team came up empty-handed in the Individual Time Trial. On a rainy and humid morning, defending ITT World Champion Nicholaus Schreiber finished fourth, an ending he said was very disappointing. "The weather didn't play to our favor," said Wood, who isn't a strong time trialist. "It's too bad Nick or our other time-trialists didn't do as well as they hoped." Schreiber finished in 48:38.517, 33 seconds behind the closest medalist and 48 seconds behind the winner. David Snow was 20th, posting a time of 51:24.494. Nicholas Bannon was 25th, completing the event in 52:27.131. Trevor Kosa was 31st, finishing in 56:02.307. Wood finished 33rd with a time of 56:52.407. The U.S. Cycling Team continues racing Thursday, when it'll try to put a cyclist on the podium in the Road Race. |
